COVID-19 Update: Modified Stay at Home, Early Closure Order for NC

On Tuesday, December 8th, 2020, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper announced Executive Order 181 which implements a modified stay at home order and requires earlier nighttime closing hours for certain businesses and activities. The provisions of this order require that businesses such as restaurants, bars, entertainment venues, certain retail establishments, and other businesses specified in the order must be closed to the public between the hours of 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM.

There are, however, several exceptions to the order such as retail business that sell essential products like groceries, gas, and medications. Restaurants are allowed to remain open for takeout and delivery purposes. North Carolinians who must be at work or who are travelling to care for friends or family during these hours are also excepted from the order. All other orders limiting gatherings and requiring masks be worn in public remain in place.

Executive Order 181 goes into effect Friday, December 11th, 2020, at 5:00 PM and extends through January 8th, 2021 at 5:00 PM. The full order can be found here and a list of FAQs can be found here.
